Crime Prevention Workshop at 30th Annual CASH Conference
How do we incorporate safety into our schools through design?

by BCA Staff

Paul Bunton, AIA of BCA Architects, Shamit Das, AIA of DLR Group, Michael Belluomini, Director of Facilities of Merced Union High School District and Commander Norm Andrade of the Merced Police Department jointly presented at the 30th Annual C.A.S.H. Conference in a workshop focused on Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) for schools.

One of the case studies focused on the collaboration involved in Merced’s Bellevue Road Area High School included not only community members, but also the SWAT team from the local police department brought in to review the site plans of the school. The design was significantly changed as a result of the SWAT team’s analysis, including changing the original interior corridor design to exterior corridors.
